Stella’s love for wine began as she was travelling in Australia and worked as a server. In 2015, She started the journey in Indonesian wine industry as a Junior Sommelier which lead her to join Best Sommelier competition 2016 and won 3rd place.

She then joined a local importer as a wine ambassador with main jobs to host events and provide training. After that she moved to Singapore and work for a Fine Wine Merchant, where she doubled sales and became a top performer.

Detecting the intense growth in Alcohol Industry in Indonesia, Stella returned to Indonesia and now she represents a Singaporean Wine Merchant. She holds advanced wine certifications such as French Wine Scholar, WSET Lv 3 and is the first Indonesian Certified as a Specialist of Wine.

Together with other industry professionals, she founded W Academy Indonesia (WAI) to educate and support the growth of the alcohol industry and offer memorable experiences for wine and whisky enthusiasts.

Q&A with Stella Vania

Q: Why wine?

A: Because no other liquid in the world that can tell so much about its identities (when it was made,what kind of grape varieties,where it is made,who made it,where it made)

Q: How did you get into wine?

A: I was back to Indonesia after travelling in Australia. Had nothing much to do at that time and i always been curious about wine so i decided to try to work as junior sommelier and 8 years later im still happily stay in this industry

Q: Why did you want to pursue a career in it?

A: Im passionate about wines and theres a big growth for it in Indonesia

Q: What are the benefits of learning about wine and really understanding it?

A: Able to help people to understand wines more thus they will enjoy it more

Q: What’s your advice to someone just starting to learn about wine?

A: Dont give up yet

Q: How does it change the experience of tasting a wine?

A: By knowing what to look for in a wine,by paying more attention to wine, it will amaze you more because theres so much more to dig. The more you know, the less you know

Q: If you could share a glass of wine with one person, who would it be, what would you drink and where?

A: No one particular yet. But i always like to drink wine on its vineyard
